Meet Sharon

Hi, I’m Sharon.

I’m a military spouse, wife, mom, advocate, writer, educator, and graduate student in Marriage and Family Therapy. I’m also the person behind Anchored Where We Grow.

If you look around this site, you’ll find military-family advocacy next to marriage and family resources, Christian faith next to media interviews, and professional work alongside stories about ordinary life. That isn’t because I couldn’t pick a lane. I promise there is a thread connecting all of it.

I care deeply about people, relationships, and the systems that affect them.

Military life has given me a front-row seat to what happens when those three things collide. Service doesn't affect only the person wearing the uniform. It affects marriages, children, finances, careers, mental health, community, and the rhythms of everyday family life. My own experience as a military spouse—particularly within the recruiting community—has shaped much of my advocacy and my commitment to making sure the families behind the mission are seen, heard, and supported.

That work has taken me into military-family leadership, congressional advocacy, family-readiness efforts, spouse education, media conversations, and advocacy surrounding issues including recruiting-family challenges, military pay continuity during government shutdowns, and access to family-building care.

Marriage and family

Another branch of the same calling.

Long before graduate school, I was interested in how families work: how people communicate, how relationships respond to stress, how systems influence behavior, and what helps families remain connected when life gets difficult. Today, I am pursuing graduate education in Marriage and Family Therapy alongside additional training in couples, relationship, and family education.

I believe strong families matter. I also believe “strong” does not mean perfect. Strong families still struggle. Strong marriages still require repair. Good parents still have hard days. Faithful people still ask questions. Sometimes resilience looks impressive, and sometimes it looks like getting everyone fed, taking the next right step, and trying again tomorrow.

Why Anchored Where We Grow?

We can be anchored without being stuck.

Life rarely waits until conditions are ideal before asking us to grow. Military families know this particularly well. We move. Plans change. Orders change. Careers shift. Communities become home and then become somewhere we used to live. Marriage and parenthood bring their own seasons of change, and sometimes life plants us somewhere we never would have chosen for ourselves.

“We can be anchored without being stuck, and we can grow without losing what holds us steady.”

For me, that anchor is my faith in Jesus Christ. Growth is the response.

Anchored Where We Grow became a home for the things that have grown from that foundation: faith, marriage and family, military-family advocacy, education, resources, writing, and conversations that matter.

I don't have a perfectly curated life from which to tell other people how to live theirs. I'm raising children, navigating military life and marriage, completing graduate school, advocating for families, following where God leads, drinking coffee, occasionally questioning my life choices, and learning right alongside everyone else.

What I can offer is a willingness to listen carefully, learn continually, speak when something needs to be said, and use what I've been given in service of other people.

My hope is that this becomes a place where you can find something useful for wherever you've been planted—whether you came looking for military-family advocacy, encouragement for your marriage, a resource for your family, a conversation about faith, or simply reassurance that growth doesn't have to look perfect to be real.

Faith is our anchor. Growth is our faithful response.
